My winch cable snapped on a trail near Moab last fall

I was trying to pull a buddy's Jeep out of a sandy wash and the steel cable just gave way with a loud crack... it frayed right near the hook. I had a spare synthetic rope in my kit, so I spent about an hour swapping it out right there. Has anyone else had to do a trailside winch line change?

Actually it's usually the drain pump, not the hose. That rattling noise is a classic sign the pump's impeller is hitting something.

Check the drain hose behind the machine. It can get a kink in it or something stuck in the bend. I had a coin rattling around in mine once making a horrible noise.
