Started a rear bumper build in my garage 8 months back and finally figured out why it never fit right
So last October I got this idea to build a high clearance rear bumper for my 2004 Tacoma. I measured the frame rails like five times, cut all my plate, tacked it together on the truck, and it sat crooked by almost 3/4 of an inch. I messed with it for three weekends, re cut brackets, shimmed stuff, got mad, and just left it on the floor of my garage until last month. Then a guy I wheel with asked if I ever checked whether the truck was sitting level when I built it. My garage slab slopes toward the door for drainage, and I had the rear tires on the low side the whole time. I jacked it up, put it on stands on flat concrete, and the bumper lined up almost dead on. All that wasted time came down to not checking the floor under the truck first. If you build stuff in a garage, do you check your slab first or just assume it's flat?
