PSA: Your air fryer basket coating is not permanent

I bought a Cosori air fryer 8 months ago. Worked great at first. Then my fries started sticking to the basket. Looked closer and saw the nonstick coating was peeling off. I was using metal tongs to flip food. That scratched it up bad. Now I gotta buy a replacement basket. Anyone else ruin their coating with metal utensils?

My husband did the same thing to our Ninja air fryer, and I still give him grief about it. He used metal tongs to grab a frozen chicken wing and you could hear that terrible scraping sound from across the kitchen. A few weeks later, the coating started peeling off in little black flakes. I told him the only way to redeem himself was to buy me that silicone basket liner set from Amazon, which actually works pretty well. Now he just stands there looking sheepish whenever I use it.

Grabbed a pair of metal chopsticks out of the drawer the other day without thinking and my wife just stared at me until I put them back. Now I keep a dedicated set of wooden ones clipped to the counter right next to the air fryer.
