Just realized an old timer's tip about wire stripping changed my installs
Had a guy 20 years in the biz tell me I was stripping too much jacket off my alarm wires back when I started... he said leave a quarter inch extra and twist tighter. After I tried it, my terminal connections stopped loosening up on thermal cycles. Anyone else get advice from a veteran that felt counterintuitive at first?

Yeah, nothing says 'trust the process' like some grizzled vet telling you to leave more wire on the terminal so it actually stays put. I swear half of this trade is just unlearning everything you thought was 'clean work' for something that looks sloppy but works forever. My first boss used to yell at me for not leaving enough slack on door contacts, and I'd roll my eyes every time. Then one winter everything started popping loose and I had to eat crow while retwisting all his 'too long' connections. Guess who's not the smartest guy in the room now?
