Worm bin vs bokashi, picked worm bin and now my kitchen smells like a swamp

Last month I had to make the call between starting a worm bin or doing the bokashi bucket thing in my 400 sq ft studio in Portland. I went with the worm bin because I read it was lower maintenance and I wanted something I could just toss scraps into daily. Big mistake for my setup. The bin got too wet because I was adding too many melon rinds and citrus, which the worms barely touch, and the drainage tray started smelling like a rotten gym bag after like 10 days. I had to move it onto my balcony which is freezing at night and now the worms are sluggish. I'm thinking about switching to bokashi since I can seal it tight and just bury the fermented stuff in a friend's yard every 2 weeks. Has anyone else tried both and found one actually works better in a small place without a garage? I need to fix this before my landlord does a walkthrough next Friday.

Actually that reminds me of the time I kept a worm bin in my bathroom because I thought the heat would help. Big mistake. The lid wasn't tight enough and one night I heard this weird sloshing sound, opened it up, and there were fruit flies everywhere plus a few worms that had escaped onto the toilet seat. I ended up just giving the whole thing to my neighbor who had a proper shed. The smell eventually went away but I could still smell it in my head for weeks. Anyway, for your situation, I'd say bokashi sounds like the smarter move since you can lock it up tight and the landlord won't even know it's there.
