Three days for a simple dryer vent, I'm losing it

Went to swap a dryer vent hose in an apartment off 5th Ave. Pull the machine out, find the old flex hose is melted to the blower housing. No big deal. But the fitting on the wall is stripped, the duct is packed with lint behind it, and the landlord said 'just make it work'. Took me three visits and a $14 part I had to drive across town for. Anyone else ever chase a 'quick job' that turns into a multi-day headache? What's your worst one?
