After two months of hunting around Laconia and hearing "you'll love it up there" from everyone, a guy at the Concord DMV counter (born and raised in Franklin, 47 years) told me the lake towns get 4 feet more snow, double the property tax, and empty out every October, so we drove through Meredith on a Tuesday in February, counted 9 shuttered storefronts, and switched our search to the Exeter area that same weekend, has anyone else here ditched the lake dream after a winter visit?
