Found out my town's property tax rate is 3x what I thought...
I was looking up moving costs for a friend and stumbled on the town report for Bedford. I knew our taxes were high but seeing that $28.50 per $1000 rate in black and white just floored me. My buddy in Texas pays like 1.5%. I know services are different but has anyone else compared their town's rate to the state average and felt sick? It changes how I look at my mortgage payment every month.

Man, $28.50 per $1000 is basically a second mortgage dressed up in khakis. My neighbor moved to Florida and brags about his rate, but then he complains about the humidity melting his mailbox, so I guess we all pay somehow. Still, seeing that number feels like getting sucker punched by the town clerk on your way to work. I did the math on what I pay in a year and nearly choked on my coffee. At this point I just mentally add 30% to everything in my house and call it the Bedford tax. Maybe we should start a support group, but the meeting fee would probably be too high.
