Had the worst week of my roofing career last July...
Lost a $12,000 commercial job in St. Charles because the client decided to go with a guy who undercut me by $3,000... then found out he used cheap underlayment that blew off in the next storm. Made me wonder if people just care about the bottom line or if quality even matters anymore. Anyone else deal with customers who only look at price?

Oh boy, here we go again with the "nobody cares about quality" speech. I mean, yeah, it stinks that you lost the job, but $3,000 is a lot of money to most people (especially for a roof they probably can't even see from the ground). The cheap underlayment blowing off is on the homeowner for not doing their homework, not on you. Sometimes you just have to shrug and move on instead of turning it into a big moral lesson about the industry.

Pulled up to a job site last year where the homeowner was standing in his driveway holding a roll of ice and water shield like it was a winning lottery ticket. Said he found it on clearance at a big box store and wanted me to use it instead of the stuff I quoted him for. I told him no way, that stuff was probably from 2018 and had been sitting in a hot warehouse for years. He hired someone else who used it. Called me three months later asking if I could fix the leaks.
