Just realized how much my local park changed in 5 years

I used to walk through Elmwood park every day back in 2019 and it was all overgrown paths and broken benches. Now they redid the whole thing with new lights and a paved loop, but I swear there's way less trees than before. Is a cleaner park worth losing shade and wildlife, or am I just being nostalgic?

Are we sure we're not just remembering it wrong? I walked through my own local park recently and realized half the "trees" I remembered were actually just tall weeds and bushes that got cleared out. Less shade is a bummer but I'd take paved paths over tripping on roots every time.

Is it really that deep though? I mean, sure, the park looks different now, but does it actually matter that much in the long run? @mason847 you're basically saying you'd rather not trip on roots, which is a fair trade. Trees take decades to grow back anyway, so stressing about it now feels like a waste of energy to me. If the paved paths are solid and the weeds are gone, that's a win in my book.
