The accountant's spreadsheet tip cost me a weekend and 4 late fees

My aunt, who does taxes for a living, told me last month to just use her color-coded tracking sheet for my freelance invoices. I spent Saturday sorting every gig since April into her format, and it took me 9 hours. Then I find out the template only works on desktop Excel, not the Google Sheets I use on my tablet. I missed two payment deadlines because I was busy reformatting, and now I owe $120 in late fees. Did anyone else get burned by free advice from a well-meaning relative? How do you politely turn down their system next time?
