Just realized I mowed my Marietta lawn wrong for 9 straight summers
Moved into this place off Sandy Plains Road in 2015 and always cut it down to about 1.5 inches because that's what my dad did up in Cartersville. Last month a neighbor named Dale stopped his truck, walked over, and asked if I knew tall fescue in July needs to stay up around 3 inches so the roots don't cook. Sure enough, the brown patches I'd been blaming on grubs all those summers were just me scalping the poor thing, and now I'm out there with a ruler like a weirdo. Has anyone else had a neighbor call out something you'd been doing wrong for basically a decade?
Did Dale happen to mention what height you should be cutting it in the spring versus fall? I've been doing the same thing with my fescue and now I'm wondering if the height should change with the seasons. How long did it take before those brown patches actually filled back in?
