My neighbor with the overwatered lawn actually convinced me I'm the one doing it wrong

So I've been doing the whole Bermuda grass thing for like 5 years now. Deep watering once a week, cutting it short, the whole deal. My lawn looks fine, not great but fine. Then last month my neighbor Bob who I always made fun of for watering every single morning finally said something to me. He said "your grass is stressed and you don't even know it." And he showed me his yard up close. Dude has roots going down like 8 inches and mine are maybe 2. He said the deep watering thing only works if you actually do it deep enough which I guess I wasn't. I'm talking 45 minutes per zone not 15. Made me wonder how many other lawn tips I've been following wrong. Anyone else have a neighbor call them out on something they thought they knew?

Wait, you're telling me I might've been doing it wrong for five years too?

You know, Bob might be onto something because I’ve read that shallow roots are a common problem even for people who think they’re watering deep enough. It takes a lot more water than most of us guess to actually push moisture down past the first few inches of soil. Makes you wonder what other "expert" tricks are just half truths we pick up from blogs and never bother to double check.
