That leaky faucet at the Johns Creek open house taught me something new

I was looking at a house in the Meadows subdivision last Saturday and the realtor mentioned the sellers had just redone the plumbing. He pointed out a small drip under the kitchen sink, said they fixed it with a $15 compression fitting instead of calling a plumber. I went home and watched a few videos, and sure enough, I fixed my own leaky bathroom faucet in about 20 minutes with the same trick. Has anyone else picked up a simple repair tip from just looking around a house?

The drip was probably still there because they didn't want to pay a real plumber, and that $15 fix might mean it's still leaking under the cabinet a year from now. Compression fittings are fine for a quick patch, but they're not always a permanent answer, especially if the pipe is old or corroded. Realtors love to point out stuff like that because it makes the house sound like a deal, but a small drip can hide bigger water damage behind the wall. I'd be more worried about what else they skimped on if they bragged about not calling a pro for the plumbing. Twenty minutes of watching a video and you're patting yourself on the back, but I've seen handyman fixes turn into a four figure repair bill later. Maybe it's fine, but I wouldn't be trusting a house tour for maintenance advice.
