Can we talk about checking valve lash hot versus cold on older engines?
I had a 1998 Honda Civic come in last month with a noisy top end, and I had to decide whether to set the valve lash hot or cold. The manual says cold, but one of the old timers at the shop in Denver swears by setting them hot because it gives a truer reading once everything expands. I went with cold specs and the tick came back 3 days later, so now I am second guessing myself. Has anyone here had better luck doing it hot on these older motors?
