Debate: Is it worth spending extra on a scan tool with bidirectional control?
I picked up a $300 Autel scanner last month that only reads codes, but my buddy swears by his $800 snapon with bidirectional controls. On my 2014 Ford F150, the cheap one got me a P0420 code and I replaced the O2 sensor for $60, but it turned out to be a bad cat converter anyway. Do you think the extra money on bidirectional tools saves time, or are we better off sticking with basic code readers and relying on diagnostics the old way? What's your take?

But doesn't having bidirectional control let you actually test the cat and other parts before you throw money at it? I'd rather waste time testing than waste cash on parts I don't need.

Money talks the same way in garages as it does in kitchens, you either pay for the right tool or pay triple for the wrong guess.
