Finally got a stubborn 2008 Civic's idle to smooth out after a week of chasing it.

The car had a rough, shaky idle for months. I checked the usual stuff, plugs and coils, and it was still bad. Last Tuesday I finally pulled the intake and cleaned the throttle body and the idle air control valve with some CRC cleaner. Put it all back together, let the computer relearn for about 15 minutes, and now it sits at a perfect 750 rpm, no shake at all. Anyone have a different method for cleaning those IACV passages that works better?

A week of chasing it" seems like a lot for a shaky idle. Was it really that bad, or just a little annoying? I feel like sometimes we overthink these simple fixes.

Forget the car, check your phone's diagnostic mode. Mine showed a weird voltage drop from a failing alternator that felt exactly like a vacuum leak.

A week is nothing. My old Corolla had a hunting idle for three months. I replaced the MAF sensor, the PCV valve, and the fuel filter before I found a cracked vacuum hose behind the engine. That feeling when it finally settles down is the best.
