Hit 200 cylinder head rebuilds last month and realized something weird

I crossed into 200 head jobs last month and noticed half of them were from the same 5 engine families. The other half were one-off weird stuff like old Saabs and lawnmower heads. Do you guys see patterns like that in your own work or is my shop just cursed by repeat customers?

Hey, has anyone ever had a customer bring in something that shouldn't even exist? Like last month a guy rolled in with a head off a 1980s lawn tractor that had been welded together by three different people before him. We spent two hours just figuring out what was original and what was JB Weld. Totally threw off my count for the month because I had to call it a full rebuild when it was basically a salvage job.

It's like that with everything these days, nothing is built to last or be fixed properly anymore. My buddy tried to repair his phone from 2019 and it was like opening a puzzle box, three different kinds of adhesive and two random screws that didn't match anything. We joked that the manufacturer must have just grabbed whatever was lying around that day. Really makes you appreciate the old stuff that was simple and meant to be worked on, not thrown away.
