Just realized a plain wrench can help figure out engine noises.

I used to skip this trick. Now I rely on it for fast checks on loud engines.

My 2005 Civic taught me the wrench trick. Now I diagnose everything by holding random tools against it like some kind of mechanic séance.

Kinda makes you wonder if the wrench is acting like a bone conductor, right? Like, those things that help deaf people hear by vibrating their skull. You're basically doing the same thing but for car noises. Does the length of the tool change how clear the sound gets, or is it all about the material?

Wild how it works with vibration too. Sometimes you feel a knock through the wrench way clearer than you can hear it over all the other noise.
