I finally looked up the actual wire separation rule in AC 43.13-1B and I was wrong for 9 years
I always bundled my wire runs tight with zip ties because that's how the last guy showed me in the hangar. Last month a lead at our shop in Wichita pulled out AC 43.13-1B and pointed at the table for wire bundles, and it says derating starts once you go over a certain number of wires in a bundle. I had 14 wires tied together on a King Air panel and the whole run was undersized for the load because of the heat build up. I re-did two harnesses last week with more spacing and it took me way longer, but now I get why. Has anyone else been taught the tight bundle habit and had to unlearn it?
