That time a ramp lead showed me a better way to crimp D-sub pins

Back when I was green at LAX, a ramp lead named Eddie pulled me aside after watching me struggle with a cannon plug for ten minutes. He showed me how to stagger the pin lengths and use a specific crimp tool setting I had never touched before. Has anyone else had a random old timer teach them something that became their standard move?
