Found a way to lighten my pack by 3 pounds without buying anything new
I was hauling a 45 pound pack on the Long Trail last spring and my shoulders were killing me... so I started looking at everything I carried. Turned out my cook kit had a backup fuel canister I never used and my first aid kit was full of expired stuff. I also dumped the plastic bags for my food and just repackaged everything into ziplocs. Simple changes but it shaved off 3 pounds easy. Anyone else find random weight in their gear they just never noticed?

The backup fuel canister thing hit close to home... found two of those in my pack once.

Totally did the same thing last year on a JMT section hike. I had a whole backup water filter I forgot about buried in my pack's bottom pocket plus a full size sunscreen bottle when I already had a travel size. Swapped out my heavy dry sack for a cheap reusable grocery bag for my food bag too, saved another half pound. It's crazy how much random junk just accumulates in your bag over time.
