My aunt in Boise asked why I keep a rooster at all, and it made me rethink my whole setup
I always figured roosters were just for fertilized eggs, but she pointed out that mine sounds the alarm when hawks circle and my 6 hens actually stay calmer since I added him in March. The tradeoff is he crows at 5:15am sharp, so my neighbors in Boise are split on whether he's worth it. Does anyone else keep a rooster purely for flock watch, or am I fooling myself?
