PSA: I was sure those fake ceramic eggs were a gimmick, then a broody hen proved me wrong
I always laughed at the wooden egg trick, figured it was just old timer talk from the feed store crowd in Bend. But last spring one of my Buff Orps went broody and would not snap out of it, losing weight, feathers everywhere, sitting on nothing for 6 days straight. I dropped a couple of golf balls in her nest box and she chilled out in like 3 days. Cost me nothing since they were in my garage and she was back to laying within a week. So what other cheap hacks am I sleeping on, do fake eggs work better than golf balls or is it all the same?
