Serious question, I gave up on a broody hen after 3 days and my neighbor in Tulsa showed me why that was a mistake
My buff orpington went broody two weeks ago and I was so fed up after 3 days of her not leaving the nest box that I was ready to just lock her out of the coop. My neighbor Daryl, who has kept chickens for 12 years, came over and pointed out she was sitting on 8 eggs and had barely eaten. He told me to put food and water right by the nest and just give her 20 minutes outside once a day, and within a week she hatched 5 chicks. I always figured breaking a broody hen was the only real option, but now I have 5 chicks peeping in a brooder in my garage. Anyone else just let their hen sit it out?
