Spent $90 on a heated chicken waterer and it was the best money I ever threw at winter.

My buddy tried the "swap it out twice a day" method like @umaanderson mentioned. He was doing great until a nasty cold snap hit and his cheap bowl froze solid in under an hour while he was at work. Came home to some very thirsty, unhappy birds. That was the day he decided peace of mind has a real price tag.

Best money I ever threw at winter" is so real. That first year without breaking ice every morning is a game changer. I learned the hard way to get a backup heater element, the cheap ones on amazon work fine. The peace of mind knowing your birds have water when it's zero degrees out is worth way more than ninety bucks.

I mean I get the peace of mind thing but ninety bucks is still a lot. Maybe it's just me but I just use a cheap rubber bowl and swap it out with warm water twice a day. It takes like two minutes and the total cost was five dollars. The fancy gadgets feel like overkill when the old way works fine.
