I finally saw Saturn's rings from my driveway in Boise after 4 failed attempts
Two weeks ago I dragged my old 4.5 inch reflector out to the driveway for the fifth time this summer. The first four tries were a bust, twice because of clouds that rolled in right after sunset and twice because I had the scope pointed at the wrong patch of sky. That Tuesday the air was unusually steady, and at about 10:40 pm Saturn showed up as a tiny but clear ringed shape at 120x. I actually ran back inside to grab my wife so she could look too. Then Jupiter rose around midnight and I could make out two of its moons without even trying. What is your go to way to beat the light pollution in your area?
