That light pollution map at the library talk made me feel dumb

Sat in on a free talk at our county library last week and the guy threw up a light pollution map of the area. My backyard sits in a bright orange zone, which explains why I can barely see the Milky Way even on clear nights. Anyone else bother to check their zone before investing in a better scope or just deal with what you got?
