Took my binoculars to the Grand Canyon last weekend and the sky down there ruined my backyard for me
I stood at Mather Point around 11pm and could actually see the Milky Way band stretching across the whole sky, plus Andromeda as a fuzzy smudge with just 10x50s. The ranger told me they get around 1,500 visible stars on a good night, while my spot back home in Phoenix gets maybe 80. Has anyone here found a decent dark spot within a couple hours of a big city, or do I just need to plan more road trips?
