Guy at a shop in Dallas told me to stop using clippers on the sides, and I keep going back and forth on it
He said doing a #1 guard on the sides makes it look like a bowl, so now I'm stuck debating whether to keep using clippers for speed or switch to shear-over-comb only for 90% of my cuts, and I can't decide if he was right.
This is the same thing that happens with everything, right? Some guy who's been doing it one way his whole life tells you your way is wrong and suddenly you're second guessing everything. It's like when a mechanic tells you to stop using synthetic oil or a chef says never use a nonstick pan. Maybe they're right, maybe they just learned it that way and never tried anything else. The bowl thing is real though, a #1 all the way up can look flat if you don't blend it. But going full shear-over-comb on every cut? That's a lot of extra time for most guys who just want a clean fade. Feels like one of those things where there's no one right answer, just whoever's holding the clippers that day.
