Had to choose between a straight razor shave and a hot towel treatment for a nervous first-timer

A new client came in yesterday, visibly anxious about his first proper barber visit, and I had to decide quickly on how to make him comfortable. I went with the hot towel treatment first, which totally relaxed him, and then did a clean shave with my Andis foil shaver. What's your go-to move for calming down a really nervous customer?

Honestly, that sounds like a waste of time. I'd go straight for the shave every time. A nervous guy just wants it over with, and dragging it out with a towel just lets the anxiety build. A quick, confident shave shows them there's nothing to worry about.

Ever notice how everyone rushes to fix things now?

Consider the value of a calm start. A warm towel eases tension before the blade even touches skin. That moment of care can turn a nervous client into a regular one.
