Picked the 2-day moving truck over the 1-day, still lost my deposit in Spokane

I had to move a one bedroom apartment last month and the rental place offered a 1-day truck for $89 or a 2-day for $129. I figured the extra day would give me breathing room so I went with the 2-day, big mistake. First day I loaded everything in 4 hours flat, then the truck sat in my driveway overnight and someone scratched the side panel backing out of their own driveway. The rental company charged me a $150 damage fee because I didn't take photos of the truck at pickup, even though I had texted my buddy a video of the scratch. Now I'm out the extra $40 plus the fee and I could have saved both if I just returned it same day. Has anyone else gotten burned by taking the longer rental window when they didn't actually need it?
