Update: my streaming stick died 20 minutes into season 3 of The Bear and I watched the rest on my phone
My 4 year old Roku stick just froze on a loading screen right in the middle of the episode where everything goes wrong in the kitchen, which honestly felt a little too on the nose. I tried unplugging it, waited a full 2 minutes, plugged it back in, and got nothing but a purple screen. So I finished the whole season on my cracked phone screen, squinting at Carmy yelling at people from 6 inches away. Now I'm wondering if the stick is really dead or if I just need to factory reset it. Anyone got a trick that actually works, or am I just buying a new one?

Did you try the old unplug and hold the reset button on the back for like 30 seconds? I read on a forum that a purple screen usually means the stick lost its firmware and a hard reset can sometimes bring it back. The trick is you have to hold the button while plugging the power back in, then keep holding until the light starts blinking. Mine did the same thing last year and that actually saved it, so it might be worth a shot before you drop money on a new one.
