Learned that lesson the hard way with cheap tongs

I bought a set of 3 tongs for $25 off Amazon and they bent on the first heat within 10 minutes. Lost a good piece of steel I was shaping for a customer hook because it slipped right out. Anyone else find that cheap tools just end up costing you more in wasted material?

Same thing happened with my grinder, the cheap one almost took off my finger.

and honestly, what brand was it? I see so many of those cheap ones at hardware stores and people swear by them but I keep hearing stories like yours. was it one of those no-name ones with the plastic guards that just break off? I almost bought one last month because it was twenty bucks but now I'm glad I didn't.
