My favorite hammer handle swap ended up being a total flop

Swapped a hickory handle on my 3-pound cross peen for one of those synthetic rubber grips last Tuesday, and after a full day of work it just felt dead in my hand, no feedback on the strike at all. Anyone else gone back to wood after trying the fancy stuff, or am I the only one who needs that spring back?
