Spent 6 hours on a forge weld that should've taken 30 minutes

Turns out my coal was too wet from sitting in the shed all spring, and it kept dropping the heat right before flux. Anyone else store their coal outside and deal with this, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

Kept my coal in a plastic tote with a lid after that happened once, made a huge difference for me. Now I check it the night before and if it feels damp at all, I spread it out on a tarp for an hour before firing up.
