I finally stopped using foam core inserts for board games
A buddy at the local game store told me my custom foam core inserts were actually taking up more space than they saved. He showed me how he just bags everything by player count and fits 3 extra games in the same Kallax cube. Has anyone else switched to baggies after swearing by foam core for years?

So Dave's situation with Terraforming Mars is actually pretty common. I've seen about 6 different people at my local meetup group make the same mistake with that game specifically. The thing nobody talks about is how foam core can actually warp over time if you live in a humid place like I do here in Florida. My first insert for Castles of Mad King Ludwig got all soft and started falling apart after just 8 months. Plus baggies let me sort by color or function instead of being stuck with one layout forever.

Yeah the "custom foam core" part got me. My buddy Dave spent like a weekend building this crazy foam core insert for Terraforming Mars, all measured out perfect. Then he realized he couldn't even fit the expansions he bought later. He switched to baggies and now he just tosses everything in, pulls out what he needs. He said it's way easier to pack up too, no more trying to wedge pieces back into those tight slots.
