A customer at my table in Tucson said she judges a book by how it falls open, and now I test every spine twice
She handed back a Bible I rebound in red goatskin and said if it snaps shut like a mousetrap she won't buy it, so now I break in every spine at least twice before it goes in the press, and honestly my books sit flatter because of it, but does anyone else do a fall test before finishing, or is that just me?
