I cut a coffee stirrer in half to make a tiny bone folder for miniature books and it actually creases clean
I was folding these 1 inch miniature book signatures last Tuesday and my real bone folder was way too big so every crease looked like garbage. Out of frustration I snipped a wooden coffee stirrer from the breakroom at my depot in half, sanded the tip with 400 grit, and ran it along the fold, and the paper creased sharper than anything my actual tools managed. Has anyone else here made mini tools from random junk for small scale work?
Oh man, I do this all the time! My best one is a bamboo skewer I snapped the point off of and rubbed down on the sidewalk until it was flat and smooth. It lives in my pencil cup now and I reach for it more than my real folder for anything under 2 inches. I also bent a paper clip into a tiny awl for poking holes in sewing signatures, and a flathead nail with the tip filed down works great as a little weight for holding pages open. Something about the size match makes all the difference, since a big tool on a tiny fold just never sits right. Cheap junk tools beat fancy ones when the scale is this small.
