Just compared wheat paste to PVA for a small repair job

I had to fix a hinge on a 1900s poetry book. The wheat paste was a bit slower to dry, but it felt way more flexible and gentle on the old paper. Has anyone else found that for older books, the slower option is actually better?

Honestly, it's just a book hinge. People act like it's museum conservation work.

Tell that to my copy of Moby Dick that's currently in two pieces. A little extra care now saves a big mess later. My own laziness is a cautionary tale.

Have you ever tried to fix one properly? A good hinge repair keeps the whole book from falling apart later, so it's worth doing right. What kind of books are you working on?
