Vent: Saw a huge difference in my binding after 3 months of switching to linen thread

I used to swear by synthetic thread for cost, but after switching to proper Irish linen thread, my textbooks started laying flat for the first time ever. The key was pre-waxing it with beeswax myself instead of buying pre-waxed spools. Has anyone else noticed their joints holding up better after making a thread swap?

Did you try waxing it yourself or just buy the pre waxed stuff? I actually had the exact same experience with my coptic stitch bindings - the threads started breaking on me after a year with synthetic stuff. Once I switched to unwaxed linen and did the beeswax myself, everything changed. My books actually open flat now and the joints don't strain at all. The extra minute or two waxing each thread is totally worth it.

God, that's so frustrating. @the_olivia is right though, waxing it yourself makes a world of difference even with good linen.
