I always used canned stuff for my recipes. Fresh from the vine, it's a whole different world.

Waste so much time and garden space for salsa... my canned stuff tastes fine and takes two minutes.

That one tomato plant I put in last spring basically took over half my yard. The taste is so much brighter and sharper than anything from a can, it’s hard to even call them the same food. Sure, it takes months of watering and fighting off bugs to get there. But opening a can and washing a homegrown tomato are two completely different experiences, and only one of them comes with bragging rights. I guess if your goal is just to have a red paste in a bowl as fast as possible, you’ve nailed it.

Gardening takes effort, but the taste difference makes canned salsa seem like ketchup.
