Just spent $60 on a 'rare' seed packet that was just common milkweed
I bought it online from a seller with great pictures, but the seeds that grew were plain old Asclepias syriaca, not the special variety shown. It feels like some sellers are just repackaging easy-to-find seeds at a high price. Has anyone else been tricked by a fancy seed listing?

Remember those "black" petunia seeds that were all over a few years back? Paid a stupid amount, grew them out, and they were just the deepest purple you've ever seen. Not even close to black.

Yeah but "paid a stupid amount" is the real problem here. It's just a flower color, not a life changing thing. So they were a deep purple instead of black, big deal. You still got a cool looking plant out of it. People get so hung up on the exact name when the result is basically the same.

Actually, those black petunias were a real thing for a while from select breeders. The seeds got mixed up in the supply chain, so a lot of people got the wrong ones. It's a bummer when you pay for a specific novelty and don't get it.
