My new Venus flytrap ate my mom's engagement ring

Left it on the windowsill while washing dishes last Tuesday. Came back and the trap was closed tight. Had to gently pry it open with tweezers. The ring was covered in plant goo. Anyone else have a carnivorous plant cause a minor household crisis?

You said you had to pry the trap open, but that's actually bad for the plant. Venus flytraps can't digest metal, so it would have just opened on its own in a few days. You probably stressed it out for no reason.

Wait, are you sure about that? I've always heard that if a trap closes on something it can't digest, like metal or a rock, it can actually rot if left closed too long. That's why the advice is often to gently open it. Jadeg99's story about the sundew is wild, but at least that was organic material that might break down eventually.

My friend's sundew ate her car key fob. @avery897 would be horrified.
