My venus flytrap nearly died because I babied it too much
I spent 6 months fussing over my flytrap, giving it distilled water, keeping it in a glass dome, and misting it daily. Last Tuesday I got fed up and just put it on the windowsill with the rest of my plants, no dome, tap water only from the rain catcher. Two days later it sprouted a new trap and the leaves perked up like it was laughing at me. Now I'm wondering if all my other fussy plants would do better if I just ignored them a bit. Anyone else found that their plants thrive on neglect more than care?

My grandma had a bonsai tree she ignored for like 15 years. Only watered it when the leaves started drooping, which was maybe twice a summer. That thing lived through three moves, a cat attack, and one time the pot froze solid. Then she gave it to my cousin who read all the bonsai books, followed every rule, and it died in four months. Plants are weird like that. They seem to sense when you're trying too hard and just give up out of spite. Maybe yours just needed to feel like it was surviving on its own terms, not being hovered over.
