Appreciation post: the guy at the Hardwick dump told me to stop buying garden soil and I fought him on it
Last spring I was at the Hardwick transfer station unloading brush when the attendant saw my truck bed full of $12 bags of potting mix and asked why I was paying for dirt when the town gives away free compost. I told him store bought was cleaner and had no weeds, but he walked me over to the compost pile anyway and I filled four buckets for nothing. Six months later my tomatoes did better in that free stuff than the $60 of bagged mix ever did, so am I the only one who was sleeping on the town compost pile?
