Found an old wood stove at a tag sale in Worcester for $40. Best money I ever spent on staying warm.

Check the firebrick and door gasket before you use it heavy. Those old stoves are tanks but the cheap fixes make all the difference. Grab a magnetic stove thermometer too so you don't overshoot and crack something from going too hot too fast.

Forty bucks for a wood stove that actually works is a straight up steal, you lucked out. I get that feeling of finding something solid and functional for next to nothing, it's like beating the system somehow. I've been running a similar old model for about five years now and it throws heat like a beast even in the worst Massachusetts cold snaps. The firebrick and door gasket advice is solid, I learned that the hard way after a drafty night and a smoky kitchen. A thermometer is a good call too, those old beasts can get scary hot if you're not watching them. Stick with it and you'll be toasty all winter for pennies.
