Laid a herringbone pattern I hated, now it's my go-to

Did a small patio for my sister-in-law last spring, she insisted on herringbone with reclaimed brick. I was sure it would look scrappy and take way too long. Turns out the irregular edges kinda hide the small gaps and it went down quicker than straight sets once I got the rhythm. Anyone else find a pattern they mocked actually saves time in the long run?

Funny how that works. Same thing happened to me with a full brick basketweave on a fire pit base, thought it’d look too busy but the repeating squares actually made the whole thing feel more solid and finished. Still my favorite cheap trick for hiding uneven cuts, even though I still trash talk it every time I lay it down.
