The time a squirrel stole my chalk line on a job in Boise
I was setting up for a big garden wall last spring, and I had my chalk line snapped out nice and straight. Turned my back for maybe 30 seconds to grab a level, and this little red squirrel just zipped down a tree, grabbed the metal hook in its mouth, and ran off with the whole reel. It dragged it up the tree and left it tangled in the branches about 15 feet up. Had to borrow a ladder from the homeowner to get it back. Anyone else have a wild animal mess with their tools on site?

Did it at least leave you a nut as payment?

A raccoon once stole my tape measure, but I got it back with some leftover lunch meat.

It's funny how the universe works, trading a tape measure for meat. That's the kind of transaction that makes you realize most problems in life can be solved with a little patience and some good bait.
