The $3 curtain rod fix that held up better than the $40 bracket set

I rigged a sagging curtain rod with a zip tie and a coat hook in my rental in Austin last month, and it's been rock solid through 20 open-close cycles, so has anyone else found a janky fix that beat the real hardware?
